What is diVa™ Laser Vaginal Therapy?

diVa™ laser vaginal therapy is a quick, comfortable, no downtime solution to a woman’s most intimate challenges. Just like every other part of the body, the vagina changes with age, but additional decline in vaginal health may be caused by two major events in a woman’s life.

Childbirth stretches the vaginal canal and surrounding tissue. This stretching damages the vaginal walls and weakens the pelvic floor.  These tissues may not return to the same state as before childbirth and can result in varying degrees of urinary stress incontinence – the involuntary leakage of urine that occurs with sneezing, coughing, exercising, or other physical activity.

Menopause and other events such as a hysterectomy and chemotherapy, may lead to reduced estrogen levels in the body, resulting in the thinning and drying of the vaginal walls and painful intercourse.  Traditional therapies to improve these symptoms locally involves the use of lubricants and estrogen containing creams.

diVa™ utilizes the world’s first and only revolutionary Hybrid Fractional Laser (HFL) technology to resurface the layers of the vaginal wall, replacing it with brand new, healthy tissue. Increased layers of glycogen filled cells and blood supply provide increased lubrication, decreased pain with intercourse, and increased sensitivity*. Deeper treatment results in strengthening of the pelvic floor and improvement in symptoms of urinary stress incontinence*. Every woman is unique and we customize treatments according to age, symptoms and desired results.

At Restore Vein & Skin Centre, we are committed to achieving the best response from our therapies as possible using modern science. As part of every diVa treatment, we apply platelet rich plasma (PRP) obtained from the patient’s own blood and apply this to the vaginal walls after each treatment. Platelets contain potent growth factors which accelerate tissue repair and wound healing. It may enhance collagen stimulation through activation of stem cells. PRP has been utilized for many years in orthopedic medicine, dentistry, and reconstructive surgery. It is now frequently used in cosmetic medicine for skin rejuvenation and treatment of hairloss.

FAQ’S:

Who is an ideal candidate for diVa™?
Women with mild to moderate urinary incontinence and those who are experiencing menopause may be interested in a resurfacing treatment to improve the quality of their vaginal tissue.  It is also a great treatment option for women who are suffering from vaginal dryness causing painful intercourse, and would like an alternative to traditional estrogen therapies, I.e. estrogen pills, creams, gels, patches etc.

How long does a procedure take?
diVa’s ergonomic design allows for comfortable, fast and easy treatments. Each procedure takes 3 to 5 minutes to treat the full length of a vaginal canal.

How many treatments are recommended?
For optimum improvement, we recommend three treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, followed by one treatment every 12 months for maintenance.

What do patients experience during the treatment?
diVa™ laser vaginal therapy is fast with minimal discomfort, described as a “3 out of 10”.  Topical anesthetic is applied to increase your comfort.

What do patients experience in the next 48 hours after treatment?
You may return to your daily routine with minimal to no discharge, spotting, or discomfort; however, you should avoid sexual intercourse for up to 48 hours.

Why choose diVa over other vaginal laser systems?
1. diVa treatments are completed in only 3 – 5 minutes and customized to the patient’s biggest concerns and needs. No other vaginal laser system on the market can do this.
2. Each diVa treatment utilizes a high quality strengthened quartz dilator which is disposed of after each use. The laser hand piece is placed within the applicator and never touches the patient. This assures the highest level of hygiene with no risk of cross contamination.
3. diVa utilizes high precision automation of laser delivery which removes the potential for operator error and the creation of “hot spots” that can occur with systems utilizing manual maneuvering of the hand piece.
4. diVa treatments are comfortable. It is the only system to utilize technology with dual wavelengths, allowing for highly effective, customizable treatment associated with little pain, negligible complication rates, faster tissue healing and return to normal sexual activity*.

Does it work?
In a recent study on efficacy of diVa laser therapy, 94% of subjects reported their expectations were met, 83% reported improvement in sexual satisfaction, 89% reported they would repeat the treatment, 100% would recommend this treatment*.

Is it safe?
No adverse events have been reported in treatments to date. Watch Dr. Mandy Wong talk more about diVa here! And more from the makers of diVa!
